The City of West Hollywood will host the "Gay Men's Forum: Dialogue and Workshops" on Saturday, May 2, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Fiesta Hall at Plummer Park, 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood. This FREE day-long event will focus on the theme: "Where We've Been. Where We Are. Where We're Heading" and will include contemporary experiences of gay men, panel discussions featuring a range of perspectives from the Gay community, special performances and interactive workshops. The event is free.
"Where We've Been. Where We Are. Where We're Heading" is the premise of the West Hollywood Gay Men's Forum," said West Hollywood Councilmember John Duran. "The rationale for these three premises is simple. We cannot understand why we face the things we face as gay men if we don't understand our recent, contemporary history, and that's why we'll start the day with a theatrical performance by Michael Kerns and fellow actors, which will walk us from the biggest stepping stones in LGBT history from Stonewall days to Prop 8.
The Gay Men's Forum will also feature panels focusing on a variety of issues impacting gay men's lives. Some of these issues include life in the circuit party and drugs, apathy and political involvement, intimacy issues and relationships for gay men, nurturing up and coming gay leaders, HIV positive v. HIV negative: a divided community, and more.
The forum is being held in collaboration with the City of West Hollywood's Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board, community organizations and the City's Social Services Division.
