Council Members

The City Councilmembers serve for a term of four (4) years and are elected at large. The City Councilmembers select one of their members to serve as Mayor and this office rotates among the members of Council on their yearly reorganization which occurs in April.

  • Mayor Abbe Land
    A resident of West Hollywood since 1979, Mayor Abbe Land has had the privilege to play an instrumental role in West Hollywood since its inception, where she was part of the successful campaign to make West Hollywood an independent city in 1984.

  • Mayor Pro Tempore John Heilman
    After receiving a bachelor of science degree from Northwestern University, Cleveland native John Heilman moved to Southern California to attend the University of Southern California Law School. He was an editor of the school's Law Review and graduated in 1982. He currently teaches law at both Whittier Law School and the University of Southern California Law School. He was recently voted Professor of the Year at Whittier Law School.

    Councilmember John J. Duran was elected to the West Hollywood City Council on March 6, 2001. His election was the continuation of a long and dedicated history of service to the West Hollywood community.

    Councilmember Lindsey Horvath was appointed to the West Hollywood City Council to fill the vacant seat of former City Councilmember Sal Guarriello who passed away in April 2009.

  • Councilmember Jeffrey Prang
    Jeffrey Prang was first elected to the West Hollywood City Council in 1997. He was re-elected in 2001 and 2005 and has served as Mayor from 2000-01, 2003-04 and 2008-09. His priorities include neighborhood quality of life issues, public safety, affordable housing, civil rights, the environment, disabled services, economic development, and infrastructure improvements.
