Redevelopment

The East Side Redevelopment Project Area was adopted on June 2, 1997 with the purpose of alleviating blighting conditions in the area between Hayworth Avenue and La Brea Avenue. In an effort to revitalize this area, the City has created several programs aimed at enhancing the commercial and residential neighborhoods by encouraging renovation and private investment in the community. These programs include the Commercial Revitalization Program, Residential Rehabilitation Program, New Business Attraction Program, Institutional Building Rehabilitation Program and Signage Program. Many of these programs are funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant Program. Additionally, the City is committed to attracting more larger scale development projects in the Redevelopment Project Area, such as the La Brea Gateway Project, by providing financial assistance to developers.
