Women's Advisory Board
The Women’s Advisory Board was created on December 7, 1992 and is comprised of eleven (11) members appointed by the Council as a whole (at-large).Each member of the Board shall serve a two-year term commencing June 1st following a general municipal election. Members of advisory boards shall either:(1) be a resident of West Hollywood; (2) be an owner of a legitimate business entity in the City; or (3) work in the City of West Hollywood or for a business or agency that serves West Hollywood.If a member of the Board is absent for any reason for more than three regular meetings in any twelve-month period, the office of such member shall be vacated.
The Women’s Advisory Board addresses matters relating to the advocacy on behalf of women’s rights such as economic equality, reproductive rights, violence against women and sexual harassment and makes recommendations to Council relative to the adoption of programs, policies or ordinances of benefit to the constituency.Specific ally, the Board shall:
- Solicit and communicate information and recommendations to the Council on the special needs and concerns of and programming for each boards’ respective constituency;
- Provide recommendations on positions the Council might take on State and federal legislation as it pertains to the subject area of each board;
- Assist in implementing Council-approved programs related to each board’s jurisdiction;
- Serve as an advocate body to assist the Council in providing linkages between residents, organizations, city officials and the general community;
- Serve as a promotional body to assist the Council in stimulating public interest in the board’s constituency; Submit a two-year work plan to the Council;
- Provide an annual report due to Council in May of each year; Participate in the Annual “Congress” of Commissions and Boards and in City sponsored training workshops.
