Mayor Abbe Land Urges Residents and Business Owners to Donate Funds in Support of Haitian Earthquake Relief and Aid Groups

West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land has issued a statement urging West Hollywood residents and business owners to donate funds in support of one of several Haitian earthquake relief and aid groups. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince early this week. According to the Red Cross, more than 100,000 people have been reported dead and about 3 million people were affected by the quake. Hospitals have been severely damaged and medical supplies and heavy equipment are desperately needed.

"We share the world's response to the devastation in Haiti, and our thoughts go out to all those impacted," said West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land. "The City of West Hollywood will share information about relief efforts so that those who are interested in providing support can do so directly to those service organizations. I encourage everyone to think about what they can do to help."

Those interested in more information, or donating to help earthquake survivors in Haiti, are advised to outreach to the following organizations:

  • Donations can be made to the Red Cross online at www.redcross.org or donate $10 to be charged to your cell phone bill by texting "HAITI" to "90999."
  • Donations can be made to Operation USA at www.operationusa.org or by phone at 1-800-678-7255.
  • Donations can be made to the Center for International Disaster Information at www.cidi.org
  • Donations can be made to Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund online at www.yele.org or donate $5 to be charged to your cell phone bill by texting "Yele" to "501501."
