Join us for an engaging presentation by local author Cindy Handler and her husband, Harry Handler, about A German Jew's Triumph: Fritz Oppenheimer and the Denazification of Germany.
Fritz Oppenheimer, Harry's grandfather, was a scion of a privileged banking family and a decorated WW I soldier in the German army who built a successful international law practice but fled Berlin right before Kristallnacht. When he came to the U.S., he entered basic training for the army and quickly rose to become Eisenhower's chief legal aide and translator, ultimately playing a key role in taking top Nazi leaders into captivity and transforming Germany into a sustainable democracy. The Handlers will present samples of the original documents and fascinating journals and letters kept by Fritz and his wife that they used as the basis of their research.
