WeHo Stories is a community-driven project to document a range of individuals who were involved in the Cityhood movement for the City of West Hollywood and who shaped the City during its remarkable first decade as an incorporated municipality.
The WeHo Stories project was conceived by former Councilmember/Mayor Lindsey P. Horvath (now Los Angeles County Supervisor, Third District) and the project came to life through a dedicated project team and advisory committee in partnership including LA County Library; West Hollywood Library; and the City of West Hollywood.
Excerpted detail from WeHo Stories -- "Election night, November 6, 1984. As American President Ronald Reagan swept to re-election, signaling the nation’s rightward shift, something very different unfolded in an unincorporated 1.9 square mile patch of Los Angeles County called West Hollywood. An extraordinary coalition of renters, seniors, homeowners, and LGBTQ+ activists came together to make history."
WeHo Stories, a coffee table book and website, brings to life this remarkable moment and movement through vivid portraits and edited first-person accounts by Barbara Grover, who, as a participant in West Hollywood’s early inception, has been uniquely positioned to capture the colorful and poignant voices of the City of West Hollywood’s founders.
The official launch of WeHo Stories is free to attend and open to the public.
