DESCRIPTION: Event co-sponsored by the Russian speaking Advisory Board. This year Helix Collective Ensemble will present a musical program dedicated to the Victory in Europe Day. Join us in commemorating the world heroes from WWII era!
Helix Collective Ensemble will present the 2026 program dedicated to the 81st anniversary of the Victory in Europe over the Nazi regime. The Russian speaking Advisory Board supports and continues the celebration of parents’, grandparents’, and great grandparents’ role in the war and re-confirmation of their status as family heroes no matter their military or civil defense rank, or whether they survived. Commemoration of the WWII Veterans has an educational impact on the community and younger generation. Victory in Europe Day marks the defeat of the Nazi forces and remembers the estimated 50 million people who died during World War II. The Russian speaking Advisory Board is also inviting members of the community to join the WWII Veterans, their family members and friends at the WWII Veterans Memorial in Plummer park to lay flowers and wreaths, share stories and remember those who fought on the fronts of WWII.
Helix Collective is joined by vocalist Alison Lewis to delight the crowd with favorite songs of the World War II era, including songs that motivated the allies to victory.
The program will include WWII song selections from France, the U.K., Soviet Union, and the United States. Songs will be included like Le Chant de Partisans, the song of the French Resistance, Accentuate the Positive from the United States, Katyusha, Blue Kerchief, and Dark is the Night from the Soviet Union, and We’ll Meet Again and Run, Rabbit, Run from the UK.
This year, we’re putting together a special exhibit called "Letters from the Front." There is nothing quite as powerful as reading the personal words of soldiers and their families during the war, and we want to bring those voices to life.
Do you have a piece of history in your family archives?
If you or your family have wartime letters from soldiers, loved ones, or anyone connected to WWII, please consider sharing them with us.
- No need to give up your originals: We will use copies or clear scans.
- Tell us a little or a lot: If you know the story behind the letter or the person who wrote it, we would love to hear it, but it’s not required!
By sharing these letters, you’re helping us make sure these personal stories are not forgotten and are appreciated by generations to come.
