The City of West Hollywood has kicked-off October 2024 as “Get Out The Vote” month and the City is reminding community members that each vote counts in the General Municipal Election.

In addition to federal, statewide, and countywide votes, West Hollywood residents will be casting their votes for two members of the West Hollywood City Council and deciding on one Local Measure, Measure WH. The City’s website provides a list of candidates, as they will be listed on the ballot, in a ‘Candidate Information’ tab at www.weho.org/elections and the City’s website provides information about Measure WH, otherwise known as the West Hollywood Local Control, Public Safety Measure, at www.weho.org/MeasureWH.

The City Council of the City of West Hollywood unanimously placed Measure WH on the November Ballot for voter consideration. Measure WH would not enact a new sales tax. If Los Angeles County or a regional government agency imposes a future sales tax that impacts West Hollywood, Measure WH would automatically redirect ¼-cent of those sales tax funds collected in West Hollywood back to the City.

Measure WH is on the General Municipal Election ballot. West Hollywood voters will decide whether to vote yes or no on the following ballot question: “Shall the measure providing funding for general services, including keeping public areas safe/clean; preventing/responding to crime; retaining/attracting local businesses; addressing homelessness; by redirecting to West Hollywood a ¼¢ sales tax if a future district sales tax within the County qualifies for a ballot and is enacted, generating approximately $5,000,000 annually in locally controlled revenue for West Hollywood residents until ended by voters, requiring audits/spending disclosure, be adopted?”

If approved, Measure WH funds collected could be used to maintain the services local West Hollywood residents have indicated are important, including:

• Keeping public areas safe and clean;
• Responding to crimes and thefts;
• Addressing homelessness;
• Retaining and attracting local businesses;
• Maintaining/repairing streets; and
• Maintaining public safety patrols in residential/commercial areas.

Measure WH funding incorporates accountability requirements including public disclosure of all spending and annual independent financial audits. By law, any funds that Measure WH redirects must remain in the City of West Hollywood for local services and cannot be taken by the State or any other government agency.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5, 2024, but there are many ways to vote early. Postal mail-in and ballot-drop-off voting began on Monday, October 8, 2024 with Ballot Dropbox locations at Plummer Park, West Hollywood City Hall, and West Hollywood Library. Many LA County Vote Centers will begin operating for in-person voting and ballot-drop-off voting on Saturday, October 26, 2024. A Vote Center at Plummer Park’s Fiesta Hall, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard will be open from Saturday, October 26, 2024 through Tuesday, November 5, 2024 and a Vote Center at the West Hollywood Aquatic and Recreation Center, located at 8750 El Tovar Place will be open from Saturday, November 2, 2024 through Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The deadline to register to vote in the General Municipal Election is Monday, October 21, 2024.

West Hollywood voters will receive complete ballot information by mail. The City of West Hollywood encourages community members to check their voter registration status at lavote.gov/vrstatus and sign-up to be notified of the status of a ballot at california.ballottrax.net/voter.
