City of West Hollywood Presents Free Sewing Workshop Series for Drag Artists Led by City’s Drag Laureate ‘Pickle’

Free Sewing WorkshopsThe City of West Hollywood will present a free four-workshop series Sewing Workshops for Drag Artists, led by City of West Hollywood Drag Laureate Pickle and professional sewing instructors. The workshop series will take place on four consecutive Wednesdays in January 2025 – January 8, 15, 22, and 29 – from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the West Hollywood Library Community Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. The workshop on January 29 will take place at the San Vicente Room in the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center, located at 8750 El Tovar Place, adjacent to West Hollywood Library. Space is limited and RSVP is required at go.weho.org/drag. Upon reaching capacity, a waitlist will be started for interested community members.

Workshop series participants will learn how to sew with professional sewing instructors. The workshop series will cover the basics of working with a sewing machine, making patterns, and bringing creative visions to life. Sewing machines and basic materials will be provided, and all levels of experience are welcome. For more advanced sewers, there will be an additional instructor to assist with independent projects or to answer questions. All participants must bring their own fabrics.

Pickle, City of West Hollywood Drag Laureate, is a powerhouse host, performer, and community activist. She is a singing drag queen and comedienne who values education, community, and humor. She has been performing in drag professionally for ten years and has collaborated with many people and organizations to bring drag into people’s lives. Pickle has focused on blending education initiatives into her drag work and runs the LA chapter of Drag Story Hour. In 2024 she founded Drag Arts Lab to expand and elevate the art of drag in Los Angeles County through public programming, drag education initiatives, and empowering drag artists by connecting them to resources.

As West Hollywood Drag Laureate, Pickle serves as an ambassador for the City of West Hollywood to enhance the presence and appreciation of drag culture and arts. The Drag Laureate attends approximately 15 events throughout the year, including WeHo Pride and West Hollywood Day. In addition to her regular duties, Pickle has promoted West Hollywood drag culture through free events such as the Drag Artists Roundtable (2023) and the Harvey Milk Day José Sarria Drag Pageant (2024 and 2025).
