Lesbian Visibility Week is an annual observance celebrated in the United States and Europe dedicated to increasing the awareness of lesbian identities and issues. The City of West Hollywood has celebrated Lesbian Visibility Day or Lesbian Visibility Week in different ways over the years with the intention of creating additional space and visibility for the lesbian communities in West Hollywood and the greater Los Angeles area. In the 1990s West Hollywood celebrated Lesbian Visibility Week annually in July and in more recent years, advocacy groups have celebrated Lesbian Visibility Week in the month of April, with events that have focused on educational programming and entertainment and activities for community members.

Since incorporation in 1984, the City of West Hollywood has become one of the most influential cities in the nation for its outspoken advocacy on LGBTQ issues. No other city of its size has had a greater impact on the national public policy discourse on fairness and inclusiveness for LGBTQ people. More than 40 percent of residents in West Hollywood identify as LGBTQ and four of the five members of the West Hollywood City Council are openly LGBTQ. The City has advocated for four decades for measures to support LGBTQ individuals and has been in the vanguard on efforts to gain and protect equality for all people on a state, national, and international level.
