City of West Hollywood Celebrates ‘Older Adults Month’ in May

Older Adults Month 2025In recognition of Older Americans Month, the City of West Hollywood will celebrate “Older Adults Month” with a series of free community events throughout the month of May.

Older Adults Month is a time dedicated to recognizing and honoring the invaluable contributions of older adults — past and present — who have shaped our communities, supported our progress, and defended our country.

In partnership with Cedars-Sinai, the City will host the Older Adult Community Health Fair on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Plummer Park Community Center, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. The Health Fair will include free health screenings (blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol), emergency preparedness and trauma prevention resources, and information tables from local organizations. A complimentary lunch will be provided, first-come/first-served. The City’s Rent Stabilization Division will additionally offer a “Know Your Rights” workshop from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Community Center Rooms 1 and 2.

As an ADA-accessible transit opportunity, free Cityline service will run every 30 minutes from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with stops at West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard; at the corner of Crescent Heights and Santa Monica Boulevards (Eastbound and Westbound), and at Plummer Park. Cityline will also continue its regular service. Limited free parking is available at the Plummer Park south (7377 Santa Monica Boulevard) and north (Fountain Avenue/ N. Vista Street) lots. Metered street parking is also available nearby.

The City will host the 20th Annual Older Adults Service Awards during a special televised meeting of the Older Adults Advisory Board on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the City’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Community members are welcome to attend in person; no RSVP is required. This year’s honoree is Richard Colbert, recognized for his outstanding contributions to the community.

The Older Adults Service Awards and Older Adults Advisory Board meeting will be broadcast live on WeHoTV on Spectrum Cable Channel 10 in West Hollywood and will be livestreamed on the City’s WeHoTV YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/wehotv and on the City’s website at www.weho.org/wehotv. It will also be livestreamed via the AppleTV, Amazon FireTV, AndroidTV, and Roku platforms by searching for “WeHoTV.”

Also on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 beginning at 2:30 p.m. the National Honor Your LGBT Elders Day | Stand Up Comedy Performance Celebration will take place at the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Davidson/Valentini Theatre at the Village at Ed Gould Plaza, located at 1125 N. McCadden Place in Los Angeles. Join the Los Angeles LGBT Center and Jewish Family Service LA in honoring LGBTQ seniors! Mindfulness: Mastering Past, Present, and Future Living Workshop will take place virtually on the Zoom platform on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop will focus on the power of living in the present moment. The City, in partnership with ONE Generation, will host a Utility Assistance and Energy Conservation Workshop on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center’s Doheny Room, located at 8750 El Tovar Place. Participants will learn about energy-saving strategies and how to reduce utility costs.

Be Well WeHo Making My Smartphone Work for Me/Avoiding Unexpected App and Data Charges, will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center’s Doheny Room, located at 8750 El Tovar Place. The Seniors in Action: Community + Connection + Conversation monthly workshop on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center’s Doheny Room, located at 8750 El Tovar Place, features thought-provoking topics, fresh perspectives, and meaningful dialogue that connects participants to the West Hollywood community. Presented by the West Hollywood Comprehensive Services Center in collaboration with the City of West Hollywood’s Older Adult Advisory Board. No registration required; all are welcome.
