The City of West Hollywood is continuing its efforts to promote the safe and responsible use of dockless mobility devices with a high-visibility education and enforcement effort on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies will conduct the effort at locations throughout West Hollywood with a focus on educating users about safe operation and proper parking of dockless e-Bikes and e-Scooters.

The effort follows the implementation of new City requirements that took effect on Friday, August 7, 2026, requiring people using dockless e-Bikes and e-Scooters to park devices in designated virtual parking locations throughout the City. These locations are identified for users within the Lime app.

During the August 12 operation, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department personnel will engage with riders to raise awareness about safe and responsible operation of dockless mobility devices and compliance with parking requirements. Warnings and education will be emphasized, and citations may be issued for violations. Enforcement will focus on unsafe riding behaviors and improper parking. This is the first daylong operation conducted by Sheriff’s deputies.

The goal is to encourage responsible use through education and awareness while reinforcing requirements that help keep sidewalks, curb ramps, driveways, transit stops, building entrances, and other areas of the public right of way accessible and safe for everyone.

Dockless mobility devices provide convenient transportation options and support first-mile/last-mile connections to transit. To help ensure these devices remain an asset to the community, riders using Lime are required to end trips in designated virtual parking locations identified within the Lime app. Trips cannot be completed unless a device is parked in one of these approved locations.

Designated virtual parking locations have been carefully selected based on available sidewalk space to accommodate both parked devices and pedestrian access. Riders should always park devices upright and in a manner that does not block sidewalks, curb ramps, driveways, transit stops, building entrances, or pedestrian travel.

In addition to the education and enforcement effort, the City of West Hollywood and Lime are partnering on a public awareness campaign encouraging safe and responsible use and parking of dockless mobility devices. Public service announcements are being displayed on the City’s digital transit shelters and pedestrian kiosks throughout West Hollywood. The City is also sharing information through its website, e-mail news, social media, and printed outreach materials. Lime is notifying riders about parking requirements through its mobile application.

The City’s Transportation and Mobility Division is continuously evaluating the program and is seeking to identify additional parking locations. Current and prospective Lime riders may submit requests for additional parking locations using the City’s Engage WeHo portal. Submissions will be reviewed by City staff for impacts to accessibility and, where applicable, a designated zone will be added, which will be viewable to users on the Lime app.

Community members may use the City of West Hollywood’s Service Requests webpage to report an issue involving a dockless e-bike or e-scooter, including an improperly parked or abandoned device. West Hollywood has been voted The Most Walkable City in California by Walk Score, a service that helps promote walkable neighborhoods across the country. Dockless mobility devices add to the mix by assisting community members in addressing the challenge of first-mile/last-mile connectivity to existing transit stops and hubs in the transportation network and help with local car-free neighborhood-oriented trips.
