The City of West Hollywood, through its WeHoX Innovation and Technology Program, and ForYourArt will present The Extreme Present: Los Angeles. The event will bring together three of the foremost commentators on the digital age — Shumon Basar, writer, thinker and cultural critic; Douglas Coupland, the renowned author of Generation X; and Hans Ulrich Obrist, one of the world’s best-known curators.
The trio will explore the digital era in which we now live, which they call the “Extreme Present,” introduced in their new book The Age of Earthquakes. Miranda July and David Lynch will join the authors as they examine the neurological, social, cultural, and geological effects that the Extreme Present is having on the textures of our lives. Artist and cellist Patrick Belaga will perform. Artist Amalia Ulman will discuss her contribution to the book, as well.
This special, rapid-fire event will take place on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Admission is free and open to the public. A pre-event book-signing, with Book Soup, of The Age of Earthquakes will take place in the Council Chambers lobby area. Validated parking will be available in the five-story parking structure.
