City Announces Beginning of City Council Candidacy Nomination Period

Post Date:November 14, 2018 8:08 AM

CityHallThe City of West Hollywood’s nomination period for City Council candidates has begun. The nomination period runs through Friday, December 7, 2018. West Hollywood residents who are interested in running City Council should contact the City Clerk’s office to schedule an appointment to receive nomination papers and to review the requirements and deadlines for becoming an official candidate. The General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

Three City Council seats will be decided in the upcoming election. The City of West Hollywood’s Councilmembers each serve for a term of approximately four years — upcoming terms are for three years and eight months to allow for consolidation of elections with Los Angeles County — and are elected at large. Each year, the City Councilmembers select one of their members to serve as Mayor for a year, with the term beginning after the City Council reorganization, which occurs every year in April.

The City’s elections page, www.weho.org/elections, provides detailed election information and links to the California Secretary of State’s Voter Registration page, the Los Angeles County Registrar/Recorder’s website, and specific links for polling places and sample ballots.
