City Holds Premiere Screening Event for the Film, "Brave Girl Rising"
In celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day the City of West Hollywood will host the premiere of the new short film Brave Girl Rising on Friday, March 8, 2019 as part of its Human Rights Speakers Series and Women’s Leadership Conference. The event will take place from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room at the West Hollywood Library, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. The film tells the story of a courageous girl, who was inspired by the magical dreams of her mother and a sisterhood of friends, to succeed in getting the education she deserves, becoming a testament to how hope and love can propel us beyond even the bleakest of circumstances. This powerfully emotional film was written by acclaimed Somali poet Warsan Shire (Beyonce’s Lemonade) and voiced by actors Tessa Thompson (Sorry to Bother You; Men in Black: International) and Golden Globe winner David Oyelowo.
