City's Human Rights Speakers Series Presents Birthright: A War Story

birthright screeningThe City of West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series in conjunction with Hollywood NOW will present Birthright: A War Story, a film screening and panel discussion featuring the film’s writer/director Civia Tamarkin, along with Michele Goodwin, Chancellor’s Professor, University of California, Irvine and Founding Director of the Center for Biotechnology and Global Health Policy; Emiliana Guereca, Founder / Executive Director, Women’s March Los Angeles Foundation; and, duVergne Gaines, Director, Feminist Majority Foundation’s Feminist Campus Program and National Clinic Access Project.

The event will take place on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 starting with a reception at 6:30 p.m. at the City of West Hollywood’s Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room, located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. The event is free, but seating is limited; RSVP is required at Free parking will be provided in the adjacent five-story parking structure with validation at the event.

Birthright: A War Story is a feature length documentary that exposes the truth of how American women are being jailed, physically violated, and even put at risk of dying as a radical movement tightens its grip across America and allows states, courts, and religious doctrine to govern whether, when, and how women will bear children.

The City of West Hollywood’s Human Rights Speakers Series brings together diverse communities to learn about and discuss global, national, and local human rights issues in a supportive environment. It is an extension of the City of West Hollywood’s core value of Respect and Support for People.
