Each business in the City of West Hollywood is allowed to have 12 special events per calendar year. Businesses must obtain and submit a Special Event Permit Application for each event.

The City of West Hollywood created a safety handbook for nightlife establishments in June 2017. The goal of this document is to assist nightlife owners in maintaining safe bars, lounges and clubs free from illegal activity including: drug sales, underage drinking, overconsumption of alcohol, violence, prostitution, sex offenses, and terrorism.
