Christine Safriet is the City of West Hollywood’s Director of Human Services & Rent Stabilization. The Department supports a healthy, resilient community by providing social services, ensuring access to affordable and well-maintained housing, reducing and preventing homelessness, and enforcing the Rent Stabilization Ordinance.
Christine has served the City of West Hollywood for more than a decade, with progressive management experience in organizational strategy, operations, finance, and budgeting. Christine most recently supported executive leadership as the Assistant to the City Manager and led the development of the City’s first strategic plan in 20 years, grounded in extensive community engagement and measurable and achievable goals. She also developed the City’s first Community Safety & Well-Being Strategy and has driven coordination and implementation across departments. Under her stewardship, the City also opened the Holloway Interim Housing Program, a 20-bed transitional housing program serving chronically homeless individuals that offers comprehensive services and a safe and supportive space to help residents transition into long-term, stable housing.
Earlier in her tenure with the City, Christine served as Budget Officer, leading development and monitoring of the City’s approximately $150 million annual operating budget and multi-year capital work plan. In that capacity, she also supported the City’s issuance of multiple long-term capital bonds to strengthen financial health and stability and simplified the budget process resulting in increased organizational efficiencies and process improvements.
Before entering municipal government, Christine worked in economic planning and consulting, managing and analyzing multimillion dollar projects including public infrastructure, renewable energy, and residential and commercial development. Her experience partnering with government agencies, businesses, and community organizations helps her evaluate ideas from multiple perspectives and deliver practical, achievable solutions.
Christine holds an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management, an MA in Urban Planning from UCLA, and a BS in Geophysics from Boston College. She has also served on the Board of Managers for the Hollywood Wilshire YMCA and the Board of Directors for the FTM Alliance of Los Angeles.
