Danny Rivas is the City of West Hollywood’s Director of Community Safety. The Community Safety Department works to ensure public safety and strengthen the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors in West Hollywood.
The Department is responsible for fostering a community policing approach, coordinating targeted community programs to reduce crime and increase neighborhood livability, facilitating emergency management and disaster preparedness, coordinating law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services personnel for all major special events utilizing a unified command approach, and being the direct liaison to the City’s Public Safety Commission and Business License Commission.
These services are provided through the following functions: Community Preservation, Public Safety Administration, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and Security Ambassadors.
Danny has been with the City of West Hollywood since 2019 and possesses over two decades of experience in local government having worked in three cities. Prior to becoming Director of Community Safety, he served as Acting Director of Public Works managing the Engineering, Parking Services, Code Compliance, and Environmental Services functions. Danny also served as Division Manager in the Department of Public Works, with oversight of the City’s business licensing and permits, code enforcement, and animal care and control operations. This also included being the direct liaison to the City’s Business License Commission.
Before joining the City of West Hollywood, Danny worked as Division Manager in the Community Development Department for the City of Santa Clarita where he spent more than 17 years serving in a variety of roles in four departments including Recreation and Community Services, Neighborhood Services, Community Development, and Public Works.
Danny holds an Associate of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from College of the Canyons, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne, and an Executive Master’s Degree in Leadership and Graduate Certificate in City/County Management from the Sol Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California.
