Why Electrify?

Burning fossil fuels like methane gas, for cooking and heating, can significantly contribute to local air pollution and climate change. Energy use in buildings recently accounted for 60% of greenhouse gas emissions in West Hollywood, primarily tied to the natural gas combustion that provides heating, hot water, and cooking fuel. Luckily, electricity is a much cleaner source of energy in West Hollywood compared to natural gas. Since the City joined the Clean Power Alliance in 2019, most West Hollywood customers are receiving 100% renewable electricity.

Electrifying your home by replacing gas appliances with modern electric appliances, helps you live in a cleaner and healthier environment. Energy-efficient technology can also help lower your energy usage and reduce energy bills. Switching to an all-electric home can improve indoor air quality, lower your energy costs, modernize your home, and help WeHo reach its 2035 carbon neutrality goal. There are resources to help community members transition into an all-electric home regardless of income status.

These home appliances typically use natural gas and should be considered for replacement when electrifying:

Space Heater  Electric water heater  Clothes dryer  Gas Stove top
Space Heating and Cooling  Water Heating  Clothes Drying  Cooking
