Avenues Streetscape Scene

The West Hollywood Design District Streetscape Master Plan is a plan designed to improve the overall aesthetics and mobility of the commercial district known as the West Hollywood Design District. This commercial district (formerly known as the Avenues) includes the West Hollywood segments of Beverly Boulevard, Robertson Boulevard, Melrose Avenue, and segments of Almont and La Peer Drives. The goal of the Design District Streetscape Master Plan is to strengthen the economic vitality of the district by improving the pedestrian environment, adding bicycle infrastructure, public gathering spaces, and landscaping, while improving the overall aesthetics and functionality of the streets. The project includes design features to correct hazardous traffic conditions while encouraging walking and cycling throughout the district.

This plan was developed with the input of a 17 member group advisory group consisting of residents, business owners, commissioners, and members of the West Hollywood Design District Business Improvement District. The Design District Working Group met regularly with the Project Team, beginning in summer 2012 to discuss the look and feel of the district’s streets and public spaces. In summer 2013, the Streetscape Master Plan was adopted by City Council. The Plan identifies locations for new community spaces within the Design District.

This summer (2014), the City will kick off Phase 2 of the Streetscape Master Plan focusing on the design of the public spaces that were identified in the Plan. Beginning in June, the City will hold a series of community workshops, stakeholder meetings, and briefings with community members and property owners to finalize the design of the new public spaces. Avenues Street-side Open House - October 13, 2012

Residents, merchants, Avenues Working Group members, staff, consultants, property owners, and other passers by gathered at an open house style event to review the draft Avenues Streetscape plan. Large vision boards were displayed on the walls of a vacant storefront - and were grouped by topic and street. This event afforded the community an opportunity to see the plan up close and personal. Comments were received during the event on our comment cards, and also directly on the vision boards. Below are links to the PDF files of the vision boards displayed.
