Carsharing provides many benefits to the City and its residents. It serves as an additional transportation option and provides convenient access to a vehicle for those who need it. Carsharing also encourages lower vehicle ownership, shifts in travel modes, and fewer miles driven all contribute to reduced CO2 levels. Fuel-efficient vehicles make car travel less harmful than other vehicle trips as well.
The City launched a pilot carsharing program with Zipcar in 2013. Across the City, there are 10 reserved on-street parking spots in five locations. Zipcar and the City of West Hollywood worked closely together to determine locations for the cars in areas with heavy foot traffic and access to public transportation, to offer high levels of convenience for area members. Zipcar vehicles are located in pods of two on Fountain Avenue east of Vista Street, Orlando Avenue south of Santa Monica Boulevard, as well as Poinsettia Place, Orange Grove Avenue, Hancock Avenue all north of Santa Monica Boulevard.
