What is Land Use Planning?

Land use planning explores the types, intensities, and distributions of uses in our community, regulating the use of land in an effort to:

  1. Promote more desirable social and environmental outcomes;
  2. Promote more efficient use of resources; and
  3. Reduce land use conflicts.

Land use planning for West Hollywood focuses on maintaining the high quality of life enjoyed by its residents and is guided by the City’s General Plan, a document containing all of the goals and guiding principles that preserve and enhance the quality of life in the community.  According to the American Planning Association, the goal of land use planning is to further the welfare of people and their communities by creating convenient, equitable, healthful, efficient, and attractive environments for present and future generations.
