What is Mobility?

"Mobility" means the movement of people in a population from place to place. Mobility is high when all individuals can travel quickly and efficiently. The goal of mobility planning is to increase mobility as much as possible while preserving safety and welfare.

The Future of Mobility Planning in West Hollywood:

The City of West Hollywood is dense and heavily built-out, making the traditional approach of adding vehicle capacity (i.e. widening roadways) infeasible. Additionally, the City has set ambitious goals in its Climate Action Plan to reduce its impact on climate change and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25% (2008 baseline) by the year 2035. However, transportation accounts for the greatest amount of community-wide emissions.

To meet the mobility demands of an ever-increasing population and achieve the City's Climate Action Goals, West Hollywood is focused on improving alternative forms of transportation, especially for pedestrians, transit riders, and cyclists. At the same time, the City strives to continue protecting the mobility of disadvantaged groups, including seniors, the disabled, women, and children.

The City is currently conducting a comprehensive traffic study to inform the best transportation improvements to help us prepare for the future. To learn more, visit the Citywide Traffic and Mobility Study Page.
