In 2016, the West Hollywood City Council approved Ordinance 16-974 which established registration and operating guidelines for individuals that wish to operate drones (unpiloted aircraft) in the City.
An operating permit is required for every drone or unpiloted aircraft that is operated in the City.
To obtain an operating permit, please:
- Submit an Operating Permit Application.
- Submit a copy of the certificate of aircraft registration/proof of ownership issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
- Remit the $5.00 permit fee.
- The drone/aircraft must be brought to City Hall for inspection and to have the sticker placed on it.
The rules for operating drones and unpiloted aircraft in the City of West Hollywood can be found in Chapter 9.30 of the West Hollywood Municipal Code.
If you have any questions or concerns about the drone application process, please call the Business License Officer at 323-848-6375.
If you would like to report violations of the drone ordinance, please call 323-848-6516 and leave a message. A field officer will respond as soon as possible.
