In California, it's illegal to dispose of paint cans in the garbage, unless the can is empty or completely dry. Paint is considered a hazardous waste, and proper disposal is required to protect human health and the environment. Athens Services, the City's trash/recycling company has more information.

The following PaintCare sites in and around West Hollywood accept latex and oil-based house paint, stains and varnish in containers up to 5 gallons in size. They do not accept aerosols (spray paint or other spray products), containers without original labels, or containers that are leaking or empty. Paint is accepted during regular business hours. Call ahead for hours and to make sure the store can accept the amount and type of paint you would like to recycle:
