Moving / Encroachment Parking Permits

Planning a move or expecting a large vehicle? The City’s Encroachment Parking Permits allow you to temporarily reserve a dedicated, ticket-free parking space on a public street for approved activities.

  • The City will post official “No Parking” signs to hold the space for your scheduled date and time.
  • Permits are required for vehicles over 24 feet long or weighing more than ¾ ton when parked on residential streets.
Important: Encroachment permits do not apply to construction or special events. For those activities, you must apply directly with the City division responsible for that use.

Application & Posting Requirements

To ensure compliance with the Municipal Code and to provide staff sufficient time for review, all requests must be submitted well in advance.

  • Residential Encroachments: Signs must be posted at least 72 hours before the start of the encroachment.
  • Commercial Encroachments: Signs must be posted at least 24 hours before the start of the encroachment.
  • Posting timelines do not include staff processing time or Parking Enforcement verification.

Permit Types

Find the permit that matches your needs. Fees are charged per permit or per individual space.

  • Residential Move: For moving into or out of a home or apartment.
  • Resident Overnight: For moving trucks parked overnight on a residential street.
  • Commercial Move: For business or commercial moving activities.
  • Oversized Move: For large vehicles (RVs, commercial trucks, etc.) over 24’ long or weighing more than ¾ ton.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: How far in advance should I apply?
A: Deadlines refer to when payment is received. Please allow 2–3 business days for payment processing after submitting your application. Applying at least 8 business days in advance is highly recommended.

Q: What happens if someone is parked in my reserved spot?
A: Parking Enforcement posts official “No Parking” signs to reserve your space. If a vehicle is parked there during your permit time, it is illegally parked. Call Parking Enforcement at (323) 650-6757 for assistance.

Q: How much does it cost to reserve a parking space?
A: Please email permitparking@weho.org for current rates.

Q: The moving signs are missing. Can I still park in my reserved spaces?
A: Yes, you may park as long as you possess and display the approved permit. However, since the law requires continuous posting for the required time period, cars already parked in the space cannot be cited or towed.

Q: My movers rescheduled. Can I change my request?
A: Change requests are not guaranteed. The Permit Team will try to accommodate pending availability and resources. Submit requests to permitparking@weho.org.

Q: My movers cancelled. Can I get a refund?
A: All sales are final. Refunds are not provided.
