PROJECT OVERVIEW

The public space at Melrose Avenue and Norwich Drive, known as the “Weaver’s Walk” project, transformed an area previously used for sidewalk and diagonal parking into a landscaped pedestrian space. The project was constructed as part of the Design District Streetscape program but delivered as a separate project.

Approximately 7,200 square feet of space was created by moving the curb on the south side of Melrose Avenue and restriping the roadway to align with the rest of the street. The completed project provides canopy trees, landscaping, seating, and other pedestrian amenities that enhance walkability and create a welcoming gathering place.

Designed as a strolling garden, Weaver’s Walk features pollinator-friendly planting designed by Pamela Burton & Company and includes the public artwork Before Picasso by Los Angeles–based artist Karon Davis, installed in October 2025. The sculpture references West African Guro loom pulleys and pays homage to the Design District’s historic textile industry.

A pedestrian pathway weaves through the landscaped areas, providing an accessible route and opportunities for seating and quiet respite within the garden.
