Celebrate 100 years of America’s most iconic highway at the City of West Hollywood’s FREE Route 66 Centennial Celebration on Sunday, August 16, 2026, with a full day of festivities at Plummer Park. The community is invited to enjoy a showcase of classic cars, giveaways and special programming honoring the history, culture and enduring spirit of Route 66.

Schedule of Events

Car Show & Celebration of Route 66 Artworks in WeHo (10 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

Location: South Parking Lot, Plummer Park

In celebration of the legendary highway’s centennial, the community is invited to enjoy a FREE showcase of classic cars, vintage automobiles and custom vehicles inspired by the spirit of America’s most iconic road.

A special program will begin at 11:30 a.m. to unveil the new Route 66 street sign by artist Sküt and recognize artists Luciana Abait, Vinnie Hager, and Sylke Meyer whose Route 66-themed artwork will be installed along Santa Monica Boulevard as part of the City’s Creative Plan initiative.

The event will also feature Route 66 themed giveaways, photo opportunities, food (for purchase), and a live DJ. For questions please contact business@weho.org.

Charles Phoenix Presents: Los Angelesland (12 p.m. - 2 p.m.)

Location: Fiesta Hall, Plummer Park

Join the Historic Preservation Commission to celebrate the City of West Hollywood's commitment to recognizing and preserving its rich cultural and architectural history at an iconic landmark. Since West Hollywood’s incorporation in 1984 the City has made great strides in historic preservation, and through its progressive policies has preserved significant landmarks and historic districts for future generations.

This event features a BIG RETRO slide show Celebrating the City of Angels presented by Charles Phoenix, acclaimed retro pop-culture historian, author, and “Ambassador of Americana.”

The Soul Space Live is the music experience you didn’t know you were missing. Curated by Tamara Jade and Orlando Dixon, artists who’ve shared stages with Doja Cat, Jon Batiste, Madonna, and Lizzo, and brought their voices to NBC’s The Voice and the Grammy Awards.

Mark Evich
Mark Evich is a Los Angeles–based soul singer and producer making waves in the contemporary R&B scene. Drawing inspiration from artists like D’Angelo, Bilal, Jill Scott, and the Soulquarians movement.

DJ Rosegawd
DJ Rosegawd is a dynamic DJ and event curator. Her innovative approach to event curation and her dedication to celebrating influential music have solidified her presence in the industry in both Los Angeles and New York music scenes.

The concert is FREE. All ages. Blankets and low chairs suggested. Food will be available for purchase.

Celebrating the Route 66 Centennial Through a Temporary Public Art Corridor

The City of West Hollywood is transforming Santa Monica Boulevard into a vibrant public art corridor that celebrates travel, connection, and cultural exchange. Route 66’s iconic past is used as a springboard for contemporary creativity, inviting artists to reinterpret the themes and mythology that have shaped generations of explorers. Three Route 66–themed artworks will be installed along Santa Monica Boulevard as part of the Creative Plan initiative

At 8315 Santa Monica Boulevard, artist Luciana Abait presents Road Trip, a vinyl mural that reimagines the Route 66 landscape through transformed color, light, and texture. Installed across storefront windows, her piece creates a dreamlike travelscape of an abstracted journey that honors the road’s legacy while inviting viewers to imagine their own narratives of exploration. Citywide, along Santa Monica Boulevard, Vinnie Hager’s Path Discovery wraps street poles in vibrant vinyl designs centered around a customized WeHo Route 66 shield. His bold artistic language incorporates symbolic motifs celebrating exploration, diversity, and community identity. The work creates a rhythmic visual thread along the corridor, marking the Route 66 Centennial with movement and color. (Installation in August 2026). This multi city partnership uses existing infrastructure, light poles and streetpole banners, to explore how cities can cross collaborate on a shared initiative. Hager's artwork will be customized and installed in the cities of Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, extending the reach of the public art corridor from the City of West Hollywood west to the ocean. The multi-municipal art project is breaking ground and paving the way for future collaborations.

At Plummer Park, Sylke Meyer’s sculptural installation Past Tense / Future Perfect captures the motion, mythology, and memory of Route 66 through a curved fiberglass camera obscura. This interactive piece connects past and present, offering viewers a re framed perspective on the storied highway that has carried travelers—and countless cultural stories—across the American landscape.
