PARK BATHING Donna Sternberg

Park Bathing

Donna Sternberg & Dancers

Sunday, May 31, 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Kings Road Park, 1000 Kings Road

At a time marked by collective stress and social division, Park Bathing creates a welcoming space for restoration, reflection, and connection. The event offers audiences an opportunity to journey through Kings Road Park alongside the performers in a guided, roving experience that illuminates the park’s architectural and botanical design. Drawing on themes of nature, healing, and heightened awareness, the dancers use the landscape itself as their stage, inviting participants to slow down, reconnect, and experience the environment through a fresh lens. Simple prompts along the way will encourage attendees to tune into breath, movement, and sensory experience as choreography and place intertwine.

Inspired by the Japanese practice of “forest bathing,” Park Bathing blends performance, participation, and education into an immersive hour-long exploration. As the dancers activate different areas of the park, the audience moves with them, witnessing shifting perspectives and discovering unexpected details in the natural surroundings.

Donna Sternberg’s artistic practice sits at the intersection of contemporary dance and science, using movement to explore discovery, transformation, and human behavior. Her work frequently involves social and environmental themes, encouraging audiences to reflect deeply on both art and the world around them. Through collaboration and experimentation, Sternberg creates performances that spark curiosity and connection.

Donna Sternberg has created more than 100 original works and has presented performances, workshops, and educational programs nationally and internationally. Her choreography has appeared at venues including the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, Skirball Cultural Center, and the California Science Center, with support from organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts. Known for innovative site-specific performances in public spaces, museums, and parks, Sternberg continues to create work that reflects the cultural vibrancy of Los Angeles while fostering community engagement and shared discovery.
