The City of West Hollywood has two electronic billboards located on Sunset Boulevard. Each of the billboard owners are required to program 13 minutes of art per hour. Currently both billboards are curated by Jessica Rich, The Rich Picture

8410 SUNSET BOULEVARD - electronic billboards

Art at this location plays every 10 minutes beginning at the top of each hour.

magnus Hastings 8410-9039 June and July (2)

Current work: Magnus Hastings - #Gayface

#GAYFACE sounded like a pop-art pc trope. Comprised entirely of West Hollywood residents in in vignetted GIFs, #GAYFACE’s ebullient authenticity surprises the audience with a great deal more. As the work unpacks, Magnus Hastings’ epic assemblage unfolds into a multi-layered, life-size, mirror box for the ages. Hastings begins by turning a pejorative phrase on its head with his title. Much like Joseph Cornell, before him, he allows the contents of these intricate boxes to express themselves, without compromise or apology. The viewer discovers them, like jewels; in turn, this discovery becomes participation. No matter how many times you see these films you always see something new. Furthermore, in scrutiny of the work the reexamination and recognition of friends and archetypes in the West Hollywood LGBTQIA community engages the viewer in a multifaceted reflection and discovery of oneself.

PREVIOUS EXHIBITIONS at 8410 Sunset Boulevard include:

ABOUT THE CURATOR:

Jessica Rich of the Rich Picture, is delighted to present a celebration and retrospective of the female artists that have participated in the public art opportunities on Sunset Boulevard in multiple locations, over the last 5 years. Thanks to WeHo Arts, artists occupy, contest, and play with the boundaries and use of public space, challenging preconceived ideas about what art is and where art belongs.
