The City of West Hollywood has two electronic billboards located on Sunset Boulevard. Each of the billboard owners are required to program 13 minutes of art per hour. Currently both billboards are curated by Jessica Rich, The Rich Picture

8410 SUNSET BOULEVARD - electronic billboards

Art at this location plays every 20 minutes beginning at the top of each hour.

Current work: Virginia Lee Montgomery - Facilitator

In her meticulously constructed videos, Virginia Lee Montgomery conjures a surreal and idiosyncratic visual vocabulary, frequently populated by oozing honey, animate ponytails, and manicured hands. Her practice bears the influence of her work as a graphic facilitator, a job for which she travels the country to diagram the development of ideas at group meetings and conferences, often for corporate clients. In her work as an artist, VLM (as she self-references) turns this skill, which she describes as “mind map scribing,” inwards, rendering the contours of her own subconscious and the logic of her dreams and memories. In the selection of videos on view, certain visual motifs—revolving drills, video glitches, prodding digits, reaching limbs, and dripping viscous liquids—recur in different contexts. VLM makes work about circles — psychic or material ones, and what unexpectedly excretes out of these open holes. Collectively, these forms and gestures rupture material surfaces, opening portals to unknown ends.

ABOUT THE CURATOR:

Jessica Rich of the Rich Picture, is delighted to present a celebration and retrospective of the female artists that have participated in the public art opportunities on Sunset Boulevard in multiple locations, over the last 5 years. Thanks to WeHo Arts, artists occupy, contest, and play with the boundaries and use of public space, challenging preconceived ideas about what art is and where art belongs.
