Covered California is where Californians can get brand-name health insurance under the Patient Protection
and Affordable Care Act. It’s the only place to get federal premium assistance to help buy health insurance
from a variety of insurance companies. That means an individual may qualify for a discount on a health plan
through Covered California, or get health insurance through the state’s Medi-Cal program.

When applying, various factors such as family size, income and immigration status will
determine qualification for a Covered California health plan, Medi-Cal or other program.

The Open Enrollment Period for Covered California typically is from October-January (exact dates TBA), but there are special circumstances where enrollment is allowed during the year and more information can be found at:


The Covered California website -- -- is sponsored by Covered California and the Department of Health Care Services, which work together to help health insurance shoppers get the coverage and care that are right for them. The Covered California Service Center can be contacted at (800) 300-1506.

Certified Enrollers work at agencies throughout California to assist individuals in applying for insurance through Covered California. Local agencies that can be of assistance as noted and there is no requirement to be a client of the agency to work with an Enroller.
