When seniors or those living with disabilities are in need in West Hollywood, there is one place that can help connect them to vital services. The West Hollywood Comprehensive Service Center is just that – comprehensive. Operated by Jewish Family Service (JFS) and located in the community center at Plummer Park, the Center is a one-stop source of support and assistance.

The JFS West Hollywood Comprehensive Service Center is funded, in large part, by the City of West Hollywood. The Center focuses on service to older adults and younger disabled residents and their families by providing support, counseling, resource coordination, case management, crisis intervention, advocacy and forms assistance in both English and Russian.

“Older adults living in the City of West Hollywood have an unbelievable wealth of opportunities for them to enrich their lives, make it safer, healthier and fulfilling through the services and activities available to them at our West Hollywood Comprehensive Services Center,” said Marina Berkman, director of the Center. “They always express their gratitude for the City’s generosity in providing funding for services unimaginable in any other City and for the highly professional and supportive care of the JFS social workers and other staff.”

The work of the Comprehensive Service Center has been, for some of its clients, nothing short of life changing. For example, a West Hollywood community member who was in desperate need of a lung transplant was required to prove that she would have five weeks of home health care upon discharge from the hospital. This was a daunting, and costly, obstacle, but one that the case managers at the Comprehensive Service Center were able to successfully arrange, enabling their client to move forward with a life-saving procedure.

Whether connecting clients to meal and nutrition programs or mental health services or providing support to those struggling with hoarding issues or making sense of their benefits paperwork, the Comprehensive Service Center fills in the gaps in service, and works directly with West Hollywood community members to enhance their quality of life.

In addition to providing direct service, the Comprehensive Service Center also offers a diverse range of physical, recreational and social opportunities, ranging from yoga, Tai Chi and balance classes to Bingo, Scrabble and Life Writing classes. The activity department also coordinates several field trips each month to local art festivals, museums, theater productions and concerts.
