 Center WeHo

For over 30 years, the Los Angeles LGBT Center has been at the forefront of testing, treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS, and has an even longer history tackling sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

The L.A. LGBT Center’s Sexual Health Program — including its testing and treatment location, The Center WeHo — is funded in part by the City of West Hollywood. The Center provides the most current medical testing and treatment options for HIV and STDs.

“The City of West Hollywood has been a critical supporter in the Center's effort to provide HIV/STD testing, STD treatment, and linkage to HIV medical care to thousands of at-risk people every year – many of them LGBT people living or working in West Hollywood,” said Dustin Kerrone, Sexual Health Program Director.

“In 2015 we had 28,000 visits across both locations, with over 11,000 of them at our satellite location, The Center WeHo. We thank the City staff, commissioners and City Council members for stepping up to ensure those most vulnerable receive the quality HIV/STD medical care they deserve.”

HIV testing is available at The L.A. LGBT Center’s McDonald/Wright building, 1625 N. Schrader Blvd. in Los Angeles or at The Center WeHo, 8745 Santa Monica Blvd., 2nd floor in West Hollywood.

Testing is free and can be done on a walk-in basis at The Center WeHo from Monday-Friday between 11am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm. In addition to HIV testing, the L.A. LGBT Center’s Sexual Health program offers free education and prevention counseling, STD screening, STD treatment, Hepatitis and HPV vaccinations; as well as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to prevent HIV transmission.

The STD screenings are offered to anyone undergoing an HIV test as well, and include testing for gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis. If an STD is diagnosed, treatment is available, often with same- or next-day appointments available. The Center encourages individuals who are sexually active to get tested every four to six months, because many people who have an STD don’t have symptoms and often are unaware they are infected. Most STDs are able to be treated successfully if treated early.

Once the rapid HIV testing process (which is over 99% accurate) is complete, results can be shared in just 10-20 minutes. Other results will be available after five business days. In the event that the results for the HIV test come back as positive, the LGBT Center’s counselors will share information about the variety of free and low-cost services offered at The Center, ranging from specialized HIV medical care and individual counseling to support groups and a full service pharmacy. A dedicated linkage to care specialist is also available to guide the patient through every step of the process in accessing medical care.

STD treatment is available Monday through Friday from 11am to 2pm and 4pm to 7pm and appointments are available by calling (323) 993-7440. STD treatment is also available at the McDonald/Wright building by appointment Monday through Friday from 11am-8pm.
